Ranmore Common & Denbies Hill

Ranmore Common is 470 acres of exceptional wooded common adjoining the southern boundary of the Polesden Lacey National Trust estate.

Denbies Hillside is 744 acres of woodland and downland on the south escarpment of the North Downs.

Birds of prey are also a common sight. Skylarks used to be heard high in the sky. Beside the paths and spread throughout the downland, there are numerous species of wildflower, the most distinctive probably being the Pyramidal and Bee Orchids.

Soay sheep and Exmoor ponies, both rare breeds, are kept on the hillside to ensure that it remains a good habitat for a diverse range of species.

National Trust Polesden Lacey

The 1,400 acre estate includes two farms, the Regency villa, formal grounds, plus woodland and Ranmore Common to the south.

Polesden Lacey commands some of the finest views in Surrey and the grounds and garden are open every day of the year. Walks lead you through farm and woodland to reveal stunning scenery and views. They start at the south west corner of the visitor car park where you can pick up a leaflet.

The house is open daily March to November except Mondays and Tuesdays, 11.00am to 5.00pm.

Stepping Stones Pub, Westhumble

The Stepping Stones is an elegant pub situated on a leafy lane in Westhumble. It has a superb restaurant, attracting customers from far and wide.

Norbury Park

In 1774, William Lock purchased Norbury Park, a large neglected estate in the Mole Gap. He proceeded to create a parkland landscape and to build an impressive country seat exploiting breathtaking views from the top of the North Downs.

Denbies Wine Estate

Denbies Wine Estate is the largest vineyard in England representing over 10% of vines in the UK.

Denbies gives visitors of all ages a unique and fascinating insight into all aspects of the wine producing process.

It is important to understand the difference between English wine and British wine. British wine is made using grapes imported from other countries. Denbies wine is classed as English as the grapes come from the estate.

Vines had thrived in the area for many years. In AD 100, the Romans planted a vineyard at Bagden Farm, less than 350 yards from the present Denbies Estate.
